Unlike most other reporting products on the market today, Report Services provides organizations with an easy-to-use graphical builder that does not require a developer or database administrator. The Query Builder interface allows users to easily define the information that should be returned into the report (query). The Query Builder allows the report editor to select the tables, fields, and critiera that will determine the information displayed by the report's layout. Using the Query Builder, the user does not have to know Standar Query Language in order to create useful data-driven reports.

The Report Designer provides users with a WYSIWYG editor for creating the report's layout. The Report Designer provides a graphical interface allowing report editors to determine the type of report layout, its design, the fields which will be displayed in the report, and its assignment to other Report Services users. With the Report Designer, report editors can quickly build reports that are displayed in a large variety of formats and linked to other reports.
