Stoneware Announces the Availability of A New Hosted Offering; Alliances with Squash Compression Providing Data Acceleration and Quarri Providing Security Add-ons to webNetwork

Indianapolis, IN – April 14, 2014 – Stoneware Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lenovo and the leader in Workspace Aggregation computing, announced the upcoming availability of a hosted (SaaS) version of webNetwork. Instead of installing the software on the customers’ premises, this version will be hosted in secure data centers offsite. This product delivers the same webNetwork experience, continuing to give users the freedom and flexibility to work the way they prefer.

“Hosted webNetwork is a SaaS version of the same great product that 8 million customers already use,” said Rick German, CEO of Stoneware. “The hosted version fills a gap for customers who do not currently have the IT infrastructure, or the manpower to maintain such an infrastructure. Hosted webNetwork opens the door to these customers to experience the benefits of a unified workspace now.”

In addition to the new hosted offering, Stoneware also announced the upcoming availability of webNetwork DataSafe and webNetwork Data Optimization, two powerful add-ons to enhance the delivery of resources and security. webNetwork DataSafe, powered by Quarri, shields sensitive data from malware while blocking inbound attacks. It protects data from being copied or captured by launching web pages in a secure browser. webNetwork, Data Optimization, powered by Squash Compression, decreases page load times, reduces bandwidth usage and minimizes latency.

“These add-ons greatly increase the capabilities of webNetwork,” said German. “They address the need to deliver resources faster to users, as well as give IT a greater level of security to address threats faced by the influx of devices and platforms. The technologies from Squash Compression and Quarri are both cutting-edge, and bring even greater functionality to an organization’s unified workspace.”

Key features of webNetwork include:

  • Secure Cloud Access webDesktop - new mobile friendly user interface designed for smartphones and tablets
  • webApp – deliver web, published Windows and virtual apps to any device
  • webStorage – access to network and public cloud storage through a HTML5 interface that works across all devices
  • webPass – a feature of webNetwork’s single sign-on that allows users to securely save usernames and passwords for work and personal websites
  • webStore - provides end users self-service for websites and web applications
  • webRDP – secure remote access to Terminal Servers and Windows apps from any browser
  • Enhanced support for the new generation of devices like Chromebooks, Android tablets and Macs through HTML5 technologies

Aruba Networks Partners with Stoneware to Deliver Next-Generation Classroom Wi-Fi with New Levels of Interaction and Control

New LanSchool Lite Plus classroom software is available immediately to Aruba Wi-Fi customers, free of charge

Sunnyvale, CA and Indianapolis, Indiana – September 10, 2013 – Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN), a leading provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise, and ArubaEdge partner, Stoneware, a manufacturer of cloud computing and classroom management software, today announced that they have teamed to deliver industry-leading Wi-Fi with new levels of classroom control and student interaction with LanSchool Lite Plus, offered exclusively to Aruba customers.

Without a robust wireless LAN (WLAN) and the right classroom management tools, digital learning has often been a costly investment for schools, and a frustrating experience for both teachers and students. Now, using the new LanSchool Lite Plus software with an Aruba WLAN enables a digital classroom experience with the following key benefits:

  • High-performance, cost-effective controller-less Wi-Fi for high density classrooms to ensure that students have an uninterrupted, engaging learning experience, using video and multimedia content over wireless. With faster download speeds and a reliable network connection, teachers can bring their curriculum to life.
  • Purpose-built classroom tools to empower teachers and ensure student productivity. LanSchool Lite Plus helps teachers remove distractions and improve learning, providing them with a full view of student desktops from their own computer, so they can launch websites, block applications and keep students on task.
  • With Aruba ClearPass BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) support, schools can create a cost-effective mix of district-issued and student/staff-owned, personal mobile devices. Schools can easily manage devices, applications and network policies to control student activity, as well as securely on-board personal and school issued devices.

LanSchool Lite Plus is a new version of Stoneware’s award-winning LanSchool classroom management and monitoring tool that has been specifically designed for Aruba and is available immediately, free of charge, to Aruba WLAN customers. LanSchool Lite Plus gives teachers a dashboard to monitor up to 3,000 students in one view, ensuring that students use their mobile devices effectively and appropriately. In addition to the existing capabilities of the LanSchool Lite software which includes real-time computer thumbnail monitoring, full-screen view of students’ monitors and viewing of students’ active applications and last-visited websites, the new LanSchool Lite Plus for Aruba customers enables Internet co-browsing and the ability to turn web access on or off.

Menifee Union School District, which serves approximately 9,000 students in Menifee, California, is an Aruba wireless LAN customer that is already using LanSchool and sees the potential benefits of the new Aruba LanSchool Lite Plus offering. “Our IT department loves the ease of management and our teachers appreciate how simple LanSchool is to use in the classroom,” said Steve Thornton, Director of Technology, Menifee Union School District. “Given the enhanced classroom experience we get from using LanSchool, I can imagine that more K-12 organizations like ours will be excited about the offer of LanSchool Lite Plus – free of charge – for Aruba WLAN customers.”

“Mobility, cloud and IT security are playing an increasingly important role in our schools – they have a direct and positive impact that improves learning outcomes for students and teachers,” said Julie Smith, vice president K-12 education, CDW-G, an Aruba and Stoneware partner. “As a result, it’s critical that we offer CDW-G customers the ability to effectively manage and protect an environment that keeps students on task and gives teachers the ability to maximize learning time. LanSchool Lite Plus does that with wireless access that supports mobile devices, protects the network, and classroom management tools to support it all.”

“Education and specifically, the K-12 sector, is an important and growing market for Aruba,” said Sylvia Hooks, Director of Product Marketing, Aruba Networks. “By combining the industry’s fastest, highest density wireless LAN with LanSchool Lite Plus classroom management, we give schools the tools to deliver a 21st century digital classroom experience that meets the needs of teachers, administrators and students alike.” She added, “Existing Aruba K-12 customers can benefit from a richer, purpose-built classroom monitoring tool at no additional cost and Aruba partners can now add value and maintain a competitive edge with a best-of-breed K-12 classroom solution.”

“Classroom management is an important element in a digital classroom, along with the ability to deliver applications smoothly over a robust wireless network,” said Ken Quinton, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Stoneware. “Aruba and LanSchool offer best-in-breed in both these areas.”

Aruba customers can now register to receive a free copy of LanSchool Lite Plus and learn more about the combined Aruba and LanSchool solution, at the following link: http://cloud.arubanetworks.com/products/lanschool.

LENOVO ACQUIRES STONEWARE TO EXPAND SECURE CLOUD COMPUTING

Lenovo grows its technology portfolio and advances its PC Plus strategy Stoneware brings substantial experience and expertise in secure cloud computing

RALEIGH, N.C. and Carmel, IN, September 18, 2012: Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today announced the acquisition of Stoneware Inc., to enhance and expand its cloud computing solutions, a key component of Lenovo’s product portfolio. Stoneware has built a strong, profitable, and growing business by delivering innovative software technologies, which are helping people and organizations make the complex environment of cloud computing that much simpler.

As a result of this acquisition, Lenovo will add significant new technologies and accelerate its capabilities for both commercial and consumer cloud offerings, particularly the ability to provide secure content across multiple devices in education and government.

Lenovo’s product portfolio will benefit from the experience and expertise of the Stoneware team. Stoneware already has several strong, highly innovative cloud products – including webNetwork and LanSchool – that serve millions of users primarily in education and the public sector. Lenovo will help extend the reach of these products as well as new offerings through its global reach as the world’s second largest PC maker and number one commercial laptop company. Lenovo will also help develop the opportunity to extend this technology, beyond the current strongholds that Stoneware has in government and in education, into more consumer focused offerings over time.

“Adding Stoneware cloud computing into the Lenovo line up presents a significant opportunity to leverage their success, and enhance our PC Plus offerings, all to the benefit of our customers“ said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president, and president, Product Group, Lenovo. “We have a history of innovation and embracing new technologies, and the talented team at Stoneware will fit in perfectly with our long-term strategy.

With today’s typical technology user carrying multiple devices, the PC Plus era is here, and Lenovo is aggressively expanding its product offerings and capabilities to help people and businesses connect across any device to the content and communities that matter most to them. Customers simply want a better way to connect their PC with their tablet with their smartphone, and with Stoneware, Lenovo aims to help them get there.

The purchase of Stoneware is critical to Lenovo’s broader PC Plus strategy. As a recognized leader in PCs, with the momentum of an expanding tablet and smartphone business and a newly formed joint venture with EMC, Lenovo aims to offer end-to-end secure solutions to business customers and compelling cloud-based technology to consumers.

“We are pleased to be joining forces with Lenovo”, said Rick German, CEO, Stoneware. “Lenovo is one of the largest and fastest growing technology companies in the world and for Stoneware, a small company with roots in the heartland of the United States, we are delighted to be given the opportunity to deliver real benefit to customers on a global stage.”

While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is not material to Lenovo’s earnings. Stoneware has 67 employees, located in either Indiana or Salt Lake City, Utah. As part of this agreement, it is expected that all U.S.-based Stoneware employees will join Lenovo, and that there will be no job losses as a result of today’s announcement.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and in the coming weeks the Stoneware team will be fully integrated into Lenovo. The Stoneware team will remain in Indiana and Utah and will continue to sell both webNetwork and LanSchool while serving customers and partners with the same level of dedication and excellence.

LanSchool Announces Tech Console Device Management Software for Schools

Software enables Tech Coordinators to remotely manage all computers within a school or district from a central location at no cost for the first year

June 26, 2011, Philadelphia, PA—LanSchool Technologies, the leading provider of cross-platform classroom management software, today announced at ISTE 2011, LanSchool Tech Console, the new management console for use by Tech Coordinators. With TechConsole, an individual tech coordinator can easily manage, monitor and communicate with hundreds of individual classroom computers remotely from a central console, which displays the current state of all computers under management within a district or school.

“LanSchool has focused on delivering affordable classroom management software designed to help teachers become better educators in the computer-aided classroom,” said Dana Doggett, President and Founder of LanSchool. “With the Tech Console, we are helping tech coordinators become better managers of the technology they are responsible for.”

With the Tech Console, coordinators can install applications, upgrades and updates remotely to ensure that each computer on the network is running the most current software. Tech Console also allows tech coordinators to report on inventory and technology usage. To help address the needs of teachers, coordinators can use the Tech Console to communicate directly with them via live chat or remote control, guiding them through issues or alerting them of potential problems.
